How To Volunteer at Immanuel Gawler

Volunteering at Immanuel Gawler

We really appreciate parents and caregivers helping at Immanuel, however people who volunteer in a school need to have completed the following:

  1. A Working with Children Check (WWCC)
This can be obtained by contacting the office or applying on line at

There is no charge if you are volunteering in a school.  This check needs updating every 5 years.

  1. Attend a Valuing Safe Communities’ (VSC) training session with the Principal Daryl Trigg.
We hold these sessions every term on the Wednesday generally in Week 3 of each term at 2.30pm or 6.30pm.

This check needs to be updated every 3 years.  If you have done a face to face session in the past you can redo online.  Please contact the office for the link.

Once all the paperwork is in place the school admin team will make a badge for you to wear whilst volunteering on site.  Upon arrival to school, please sign in at the office and collect your badge, and then return it and sign out once complete.

We really like having parents volunteer at Immanuel and so do the students.  Help is often required for excursions, camps, helping with SAKGP (garden, kitchen), as an Immanuel Sports Team Coach, traffic monitor, reading or in a classroom.  However you will need to have the above paperwork in place before you will be selected to help.

Again thanks again for considering to volunteer your time at Immanuel.

Government Information on WWCC
Since 1 July 2019 there is stronger, nationally consistent screening laws for people wanting to work or volunteer with children in South Australia.     The new laws require people working or volunteering with children to have a valid working with children check (WWCC), replacing the current system where people can have either a national police check assessment or a DHS screening.

More info can be found at

A WWCC can only be issued by the DHS Screening Unit.   Our school is a registered business to initiate this check.  To apply you will need to provide your full name, date of birth and an email address to Jenny (authorised person) in the office, and a government form will be emailed to you to complete and submit.  There is no cost to apply as a volunteer in a school.

The Schools' Covid Vaccination policy for staff and volunteers was updated on 1/1/23.   Please click on this link to read.

Volunteer Training Dates 2024

We have revised the policy for VSC Training where parents will need to attend their first VSC training session face to face with the Principal and then to renew the training every 3 years they can complete this via the online session.

Classroom Helpers / Parent Volunteers

Class teachers often require help from Parents with student reading, craft, etc.  When a parent is on our school site as a classroom volunteer they will be requested to sign in the Parent Volunteer Register located in the front office.

We are accountable for knowing who is on the school site at any given time.
