Central idea:    Community needs influence the design and management of spaces

Lines of inquiry:

· The features of spaces

· The significance of different spaces

· How communities design spaces for different purposes

Our Year 2 students began looking at this unit by building a blue bot city for their blue bot robots, thinking about what sorts of spaces the community might need and how they would design these.

On Wednesday 27 February they had an exciting excursion visiting Adelaide Oval.  They looked at all the different functions the oval serves and all the design features that have been included to meet the needs of the people who use it.

They have also had an opportunity to put together some designs for a bush tucker garden for submission to the Natural Resource Management Board, who are looking at a funding application from the school.

It’s fantastic to see students’ learning so closely tied to real world applications.
