NAPLAN 2018

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual national assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, and 7. All students in these year levels participate in tests in reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. NAPLAN is the measure through which governments, education authorities, schools, teachers and parents can determine whether or not students are meeting important educational outcomes in literacy and numeracy.

The dates and tests that will be administered are set out below.

Tuesday 15 May

Year 3 Language conventions 40 minutes and Writing 40 minutes
Year 5 Language conventions 40 minutes and Writing 40 minutes
Year 7 Language conventions 45 minutes and Writing 40 minutes

Wednesday 16 May

Year 3 Reading 45 minutes
Year 5 Reading 50 minutes
Year 7 Reading 65 minutes

Thursday 17 May

Year 3 45 minutes Numeracy
Year 5 50 minutes Numeracy
Year 7 60 minutes Numeracy

Where possible, we will organise for individual students who are absent at the time of testing to complete missed tests at another time during the testing week.

The NAPLAN tests will be conducted at school and run by classroom teachers.  The best way you can help your child prepare for NAPLAN is to reassure your child that NAPLAN tests are just one part of their school program, and to encourage them to try their best on the day.

NAPLAN tests are one aspect of our school’s assessment and reporting process; they do not replace the extensive ongoing assessments made by teachers about each student’s performance. NAPLAN reports are issued later in the year and the school will notify you when these are being sent home.
